| Summary of MP598.
We were able to obtain 30 shots during this run day despite cell access after almost every shot until shot 18 that were used to fix the E -port antenna. A number of interesting cases were acheived but were not neccesarily in the run plan. Due to issues with the camac crate for Hirex Jr., I was unable to get the confinement time that I needed to evaluate the power dependence and therefore was forced to scratch a large section of my run. I did however achieve a power scan which resulted in a .8 MA I-mode with about 3.3 MW of input power. The locked mode calibration shot that was needed for rotation data was difficult to obtain and took about 5 repeats until it was finally long enough for a velocity calibration. The focus of the run then shifted to repeating the discharage 1101014027 which was acheived and improved upon. This yielded good injection data into low collisionality H-mode which should be good data to analyze. After many attempts at .8 MA EDA, it was determined that the radiated power was too high and so the remainder of the run was dedicated to I-modes at 1.0 MA. The interesting shots of this run were: Power Scan: (@ .8 MA) 1101014015, 1 MW at nl04=.65 1101014011, 2.5 MW at nl04~.65 1101014012, 3.3 MW I-mode EDA H-mode: 1101014018 - good .6 MA EDA H-mode 1101014019 " " " 1101014029 - Probably 1.0 MA I-mode 1101014030 - Probably 1.0 MA I-mode |

| This run was in support of MP 598 Impurity Transport Studies in L and H-Mode Plasmas Using the Modified HIREX Sr. Spectrometer
The run began with an attempt to generate a locked mode for calibration of the hirex sr spectrometer. The first couple of shots did not yield a locked mode of sufficient length for the calibration. A locked mode shot was repeated several times through the day until a successful calibration was achieved. The impurity injection experiment was continued through the remainder of the day. H-mode and possibly i-mode shots were included in the run. Refer to the SL summary. There were a few problems through the day with bounces. None actually caused a fizzle, but an anticipatory correction did generate the single fizzle. | Oct 14 2010 09:07:14:547AM | 1101014001 | Nathan Howard | First shot is a locked mode for Hirex Sr. Calibration. E port has RF blip at 1.4 seconds. |
| Oct 14 2010 09:13:19:617AM | 1101014001 | Nathan Howard | No Argon on the locked mode. Repeating on the next shot. |
| Oct 14 2010 09:27:28:493AM | 1101014002 | Nathan Howard | Disruption at .8ish, Looks like an injection of the non-calcium type. Calcium is focused now though so we will rerun this shot until we get the appropriate locked mode. |
| Oct 14 2010 09:38:25:233AM | 1101014003 | Nathan Howard | Some Issue with RF power timing. No power shot |
| Oct 14 2010 10:04:21:843AM | 1101014004 | Nathan Howard | Marginal Hirex Sr. Calibration |
| Oct 14 2010 10:10:35:013AM | 1101014005 | Nathan Howard | Good first case .6 MA, nl04=.6 |
| Oct 14 2010 10:18:19:300AM | 1101014005 | Nathan Howard | Next shot target is the same except increase current to .8 MA |
| Oct 14 2010 10:26:46:420AM | 1101014006 | Nathan Howard | Looks pretty good for the last 3 injections and since these are rerun shots. Moving on to the next case. 1.0 MA, nl04=.6, 1MW ICRF |
| Oct 14 2010 10:41:34:260AM | 1101014007 | Nathan Howard | Density was a little bit high for this discharge so I am going to repeat it. Also, the 4th injection was disturbuted by an unauthorized injection. |
| Oct 14 2010 11:05:37:440AM | 1101014008 | Nathan Howard | This shot looks pretty good. A couple of small RF trips but overall pretty good. Moving on to nl04=.6, 1.2 MA |
| Oct 14 2010 12:12:56:927PM | 1101014011 | Nathan Howard | Went to the case of .6 nl04, .8 MA, and 2.5 MW. This shot looks good and so I am going to move to 4 MW of heating for the next shot. |
| Oct 14 2010 12:23:59:047PM | 1101014012 | Nathan Howard | This case got about 3.5 MW of heating and appears to have possibly gone into I-mode. This was a very good shot |
| Oct 14 2010 12:37:39:590PM | 1101014013 | Nathan Howard | Attempted Locked mode again. Disrupted |
| Oct 14 2010 01:15:45:070PM | 1101014015 | Nathan Howard | good nl04=.6, Ip=.8 MA 5 good injections |
| Oct 14 2010 01:37:41:360PM | 1101014016 | Nathan Howard | Attempt to recreate shot 1101013027. RF didnt behave and my injection was a little too big. I am going to repeat |
| Oct 14 2010 01:47:45:250PM | 1101014017 | Nathan Howard | Attempted this .55 MA, low collisionality H-mode. Shot is just marginal. RF is tripping out a bit but I was able to get 2 injections into it. |
| Oct 14 2010 02:04:42:633PM | 1101014018 | Nathan Howard | Very nice low collisionality H-mode. unfortunately...only one good injection (1.25) |
| Oct 14 2010 02:19:48:790PM | 1101014019 | Nathan Howard | Very nice low collisionality H-mode. Two good injections at .85 and 1.25. The source time has changed from the L-mode injections |
| Oct 14 2010 02:30:13:843PM | 1101014020 | Nathan Howard | Finally....we got a locked mode calibration that is good. I almost won 2 dollars from Matt... |
| Oct 14 2010 02:39:39:357PM | 1101014021 | Nathan Howard | Instead of a nl04, .8 MA EDA H-mode we got a bunch of Elm-frees We are raising the density and repeating. |
| Oct 14 2010 02:52:10:870PM | 1101014022 | Nathan Howard | The raise in density seems to have helped but didnt have quite the RF that was needed. We are rerunning with a different RF combination |
| Oct 14 2010 03:01:59:900PM | 1101014023 | Nathan Howard | Fizzzzzzzle.... |
| Oct 14 2010 03:24:49:167PM | 1101014024 | Nathan Howard | Another attempt at the .8 MA EDA H-mode. It was no good. Raising the density more and making the discharge slightly more lower null |
| Oct 14 2010 03:40:00:420PM | 1101014025 | Nathan Howard | Another attempt at the .8 MA EDA H-mode. It was no good. It appears as though it might have gone but the radiated power is much too high. I will have to get this after a boronization. |
| Oct 14 2010 03:54:01:340PM | 1101014026 | Nathan Howard | Atttempt at a very low collisionality H-mode. (.4 MA) was no good. |
| Oct 14 2010 03:57:56:253PM | 1101014027 | Nathan Howard | There was some issue with reloading this shot. It is a target I-mode @ 1.0 MA from 1091009009. We will retry this shot. |
| Oct 14 2010 03:58:32:480PM | 1101014027 | Nathan Howard | There was some issue with loading this shot. It is a target I-mode @ 1.0 MA from 1091009009. We will retry this shot. |
| Oct 14 2010 04:19:30:540PM | 1101014028 | Nathan Howard | Another attempted I-mode. The density may be too high and we need to get RF to be steady. We will rerun with a lower density and hopefully steady RF. |
| Oct 14 2010 04:28:40:387PM | 1101014029 | Nathan Howard | This may be a marginal I-mode shot. The RF was good but only a little under demand. |
