| Preliminary summary:
Very hard to stay in H-mode as we lost the boronization. Got a couple of great shots by changing the heating scheme. A few shots into the day, the impurity accumulation and associated radiation caused back transitions in the range 0.9 to 1.2 seconds. We spent most of the day optimizing the on-axis heating to control the impurity accumulation, in efforts to extend the ITB duration. Catherine's preheat scheme with reduced J power worked well for one shot. Steve Wukitch's neon puffing scheme, with high D&E preheat and J port powers was very successful at the end of the run (29-31), and led to our highest central densities. However, we needed more development to get the on-axis heating strong enough to raise Te0 significantly. The best shots were 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 17, 24, 30, 31. Also 1110120030 from yesterday. We saw some changes on PCI for some of the shots during on-axis heating, but not as large as on 1100324019. We had the PCI mask at a horizontal orientation for most of the run until we rotated it 6 degrees for 29-31. We were careful to time the on-axis D&E port pulses to synch with the DNB for CXRS. We also puffed NINJA D2 gas and ran GPI, CXRS, thermocouples, etc. Reflectometry was also collecting data. |

Shortening prefill caused two bouncers, but corrected by restoring the prefill. Tried Ne puff from H-bottom (2 psi) in shot 29, 30 and 31. This puff helped to maintain long EDA H-mode and got the best ITB shots. |

Prad keeps ramping throughout. Zeff jumps from 1.7 to 2.7 when sawteeth disappear. This shot was nearly identical to shot 30 (last shot yesterday), except that ne0 and Te0, Ti0 sag a little more after 1.3 sec. RF looks perfect. NEXT: keep same setup, but add in a 1 MW on-axis pulse at 1.2 sec, to blast Te0 up when the density is most peaked. Keep the same 0.6 MW pulse train after this. |

Looks like an injection near 0.785 sec terminated H-Mode and faulted J. Actually a nice ITB, as pointed out by Steve Wolfe. ne0 peaks 1.4 sec near 5.2. The on-axis pulse at 1.4 caused ne0 to drop back to 4, but it did level off Prad. The first large on-axis pulse didn't hinder the ITB ne0 rampup much. Lost sawteeth at 1.16, just before first on-axis pulse. Te0 goes downhill starting 1.237 s, but Te(r) doesn't hollow. GPI was disabled up through this shot...M. Churchill turning it on...
