MP355 RF conditioning and machine conditioning..

Goal:
1. make D/E run together at high power
2. debsorb as much H as possible by heating plasma with RF.

Plasmas:
LSN target: 1120522031 (last shot on 0522).
USN target: 1120510030

Run some LSN targets and monitor H/D. Also condition antennas more.
If H/D does not rise much, run USN targets until the end of the run.

D/E antennas from 0.6 to 1.5 sec. Power and sequences can change according to the progress of RF conditioning and machine conditioning.

LH group will try to run LH together with ICRF.

D/E antennas have been conditioned to 1.3 MW each in USN plasmas and LSN plasmas.

The H/(D+H) level started around 10%, ended at about 16%.

Some problems in cross-talking bewteen the antennas, but they were able to run together for most of the shots today.

Today's run was devoted to conditioning of D- and E-port ICRF
antennas, and combined operation of the LH launcher with D and E. The
morning was used to get the H/D down in LSN configuration. Mid-day
we switched to USN.

PHYS OPS NOTE that we were operating this week and last with low
throughput through the B-main piezo. We think that this valve will
shortly be replaced and subsequent loads of these shots may need to
have their PG3 (both feedforward and feedback) programming
re-adjusted.

Aside from a few fizzles and heavy runaway shots, machine performance
was good. During the first half of the day, I made a lot of changes in
the gas programming before I was able to obtain a robust startup. I
played with the pre-fill quite a bit, dropping it early to avoid
fizzles, but then re-raising it to try to mitigate runaways. I was
also compelled to crank up the PG3 voltage around t=0, and to extend
that pulse for the duration of segment 1. This extra voltage is
presumably needed because of the reduced throughput on B-main.

Beginning with shot 19 we had a series of good startups with full
length plasmas, interupted by a fizzle on shot 28. Radiation was very
high during ICRF operation, and MARFEs were prevalent. Very few
injections were observed. The streak ended with a full current
disruption on shot 33. For the last shot I reduced the pre-fill puff
in order to stave off the five o'clock fizzle. However, this proved to
be futile.

H/(H+D) was down to the 15% level in our AM LSN shots. When we
switched to USN, it creeped into the 20's, before reducing again to
close to 15%. We may be close to boronization-ready.
