We had a productive run comparing D/E and FA-J into L-mode discharges.
We completed a current scan [0.6, 0.8, 1 MA] and a density scan at 0.6
MA. We also had two discharges at ~monopole phase (009&011) that
resulted in strong interactions at the plasma limiter and little
heating. We attempted some high power USN discharges attempting to
obtain I-mode but we spoiled our luck with excessive Ne in discharge
#031.

Physop summary for 1120613

A rather uninteresting day from the physop perspective. Mostly the same shot over and over. A few fizzles in the morning were corrected by adjusting the RCUR offset from 3000 to 3400 and IC_EF4U was made more negative by 10 A.

After switching to upper null in the afternoon we tried to do Ne puffing. A large Ne puff caused a disruption at 1.1 MA on shot 31. Shots 32-34 were fizzles following the disruption.

The disruption seems to have faulted the DNB enable, which prevented Bob from firing into the empty chamber on the subsequent fizzles.

Boronization overnight following this run.

Next shot: Increase Ip to 1.0 MA. nl_04 demand from 9.5e19 to 8e19.
Jun 13 2012 02:03:19:377PM1120613022Greg WallaceChanges: Increase Ip to 1.0 MA. nl_04 demand from 9.5e19 to 8e19.

Result: Hesitation again on Ip ramp at about 0.012 s. Higher CIII as compared to shot 4. Pressure and fields look OK. Some hards at 0.02 s.

Next shot: Repeat.
Jun 13 2012 02:18:43:860PM1120613023Greg WallaceChanges: Repeat.

Result: Plasma through rampdown at 1.0 MA. Hesitation again in Ip ramp around 0.012 s. Looks like R is too low by 6 cm.

Next shot: Increase RCUR offset in seg 1 from 3000 to 3500 and see what happens.
Jun 13 2012 02:50:39:970PM1120613024Greg WallaceChanges: Increase RCUR offset in seg 1 from 3000 to 3500 and see what happens.

Result: Plasma through rampdown. Change in RCUR offset helped, but maybe went too far? RCUR is now a little too large.

Next shot: Decrease RCUR offset in seg 1 from 3500 to 3400.
Jun 13 2012 02:55:22:127PM1120613025Greg WallaceChanges: Decrease RCUR offset in seg 1 from 3500 to 3400.

Result: Plasma through rampdown. Startup looks pretty good.

Next shot: Repeat.
Jun 13 2012 03:12:56:187PM1120613026Greg WallaceChanges: Repeat.

Result: Plasma through rampdown.

Next shot: Load seg 2 from 1120531025. Increase Ip flattop to 1.1 MA. Increase nl_04 demand to 8e19.
Jun 13 2012 03:26:42:010PM1120613027Greg WallaceChanges: Load seg 2 from 1120531025. Increase Ip flattop to 1.1 MA. Increase nl_04 demand to 8e19.

Result: Plasma through rampdown. Good startup.

Next shot: Repeat.
Jun 13 2012 03:37:26:717PM1120613028Greg WallaceChanges: Repeat.

Result: Plasma through rampdown.

Next shot: Repeat.
Jun 13 2012 03:53:52:123PM1120613029Greg WallaceChanges: Repeat.

Result: Plasma through rampdown.

Next shot: PG5 puff from 0.5 to 0.6 s. Pump out PG5 (H-bottom) and fill with 3psi Ne.
Jun 13 2012 04:27:33:680PM1120613030Greg WallaceChanges: PG5 puff from 0.5 to 0.6 s. Pump out PG5 (H-bottom) and fill with 3psi Ne.

Result: Plasma through rampdown. Didn't load PG5 puff change. Only got 50 ms of Ne, not 100 ms.

Next shot: Change PG5 Ne puff to 0.4-0.55 s. LOAD.
Jun 13 2012 04:26:39:477PM1120613031Greg WallaceChanges: Change PG5 Ne puff to 0.4-0.55 s. LOAD.

Result: Disruption at 0.63 s. Too much Ne, I think.

Next shot: Reduce PG5 demand from 100V to 60V.
Jun 13 2012 04:36:16:537PM1120613032Greg WallaceChanges: Reduce PG5 demand from 100V to 60V.

Result: Fizzle. Late breakdown, pressure is high. Looks like a post-disruption fizzle?

Next shot: Repeat.
Jun 13 2012 04:52:09:170PM1120613033Greg WallaceChanges: Repeat.

Result: Fizzle again. Breakdown on time. Big CIII signal! Pressure is still a bit high. RCUR is a bit too small again as compared with shots 31 and 4.

Next shot: Increase RCUR offset in seg 1 back up to 3500 from 3400.
Jun 13 2012 05:06:23:870PM1120613034Greg WallaceChanges: Increase RCUR offset in seg 1 back up to 3500 from 3400.

Result: Fizzle. Last shot of the day.
