Boronization recovery was reasonable for all antennas. We completed a
current scan obtaining GPI data along the way. The difference in
radiated power in H-mode was neglible between the FA-J and D&E
antennas. The impurity source at the FA-J antenna were still lower
when the FA-J antenna was operated compared to when D&E were powered.
We ran into voltage limits on FA-J often at 1 MA in H-mode. This will
be an operational challenge going forward.

SL summary for 1120614
MP 605
Shots 1-9

The purpose of today's run was to assess the performance of the LH2 antenna following the first boronization. 6 plasmas were allocated to this experiment. The LH power was increased shot to shot, starting at 50 kW/klystron (200 kW net) up to 150 kW/klystron (650 kW net) at 90 deg. No arcing was observed on any shot.

A glitch with the PLC prevented the waveguide switches from moving into the launch position just prior to shot 9.

good day.
total plasma attempts: 29
fizzles: 4
no power shots (due to ACK failure): 3

Note: PG4 length is now much shorter than yesterday after boronization. I have also lowered IC_EF4U to increase current rise.

Note: the TF is started at -1.1 sec, and also programed to 5.2 T in segment 1 (to be the same as in segment 2). This change is to help reduce noise on polarimetry.

Note: fizzle detector was moved to 2.3 sec to generate field swing.

Note: cooling was slow in the afternoon. After 3 pm, it took ~20 minutesfor between-shot cooling.

Session Leader Comments
Jun 14 2012 09:13:41:410AM1120614001Greg WallaceAll faults due to poor LH coupling. Density at LH Langmuir probes is near cutoff (2-3e17), although line averaged density is relatively high for LH (nebar ~ 1e20). Seems like boronization must have reduced SOL density. Next shot will reduce outer gap by 4 mm (from 1.1 to .7 cm).
Jun 14 2012 09:22:14:407AM1120614002Jerry HughesI am making this entry purely to annoy Matt.

Jun 14 2012 09:23:03:383AM1120614002Greg WallaceClean LH pulse at 50 kW/klystron, 90 deg, just over 200 kW net power. Outer gap didn't change much/any. Density on LH Langmuir probes back up to about 1e18, which resulted in much better coupling and clean pulse.

Increase to 80 kW/klystron for next shot. Decrease nl_04 demand from .7e20 to .5e20, and decrease outer gap by another 4mm.
Jun 14 2012 09:29:16:263AM1120614003Greg WallaceFizzle.
Jun 14 2012 09:42:36:577AM1120614004Greg WallaceAnother fizzle.
Jun 14 2012 10:02:11:153AM1120614005Greg WallaceOne early rate fault, then LH ran clean for remainder of the pulse. 350 kW net power at 80 kW/klystron, 90 deg.

Next shot will increase to 120 kW/klystron, try to get density reduced a little, too. 3 plasma shots down, 3 to go.
Jun 14 2012 10:18:29:520AM1120614006Greg WallaceClean LH pulse at 120 kW/klystron, 90 deg, 525 kW net power. Some heating on the B row septa.

Next shot will go to 150 kW/klystron. Increase outer gap by 2mm, too.
Jun 14 2012 10:30:36:100AM1120614007Greg WallaceClean LH pulse at 150 kW/klystron, 90 deg, 650 kW net power. Next shot will go to 175 kW/klystron.
Jun 14 2012 11:20:57:860AM1120614009Greg WallaceNo LH on this shot. IDC switches did not move back to launch position from load position after the cell access. Pat was able to fix the problem by disabling RF on all klystrons, then actuating switches and re-enabling RF on all klystrons.

Shoelace Operation:
tOn=1.5 s
tOff=2.0 s
Freq: Scan between 120 and 170 kHz, six triangle-wave cycle
Amp: amp_wave_w at 240 => near full power (~1750 W / 2000 W available).

Try to scan in range of QCM as it goes out around 1.5 s. Note that frequency of QCM picks up a little at 1.5 s.
