| MP667 Commissioning of SOL Probes
The purpose of this run is to get ion temperature profiles in the SOL with the new ASP Retarding Field Analyzer (RFA). These will be compared with a future run with the new Ion Sensitive Probe (ISP) We'll begin with 1120217011 from the previous run with the ISP. Take a shot to ensure proper targeting. Then start pushing the probe in. Cell access may be required between shots to adjust the electronics. Once the RFA is operating properly, we'll begin a density scan; notching up by ~0.2*10^20 m-2 per shot. Given extra time, may revisit lower densities at the end of the day. Tweaks may be made for CXRS. If puffing is needing, it can come after the last probe scan (~1.25 s). HiRex & Co. have requested to inject calcium into ramp down, and they may. Fill NINJA plenum with 10 psi He DISABLED |

| The run started off well. The RFA was tuned and all grids were working. None of the arcing problems seen on previous runs were seen today (sheets of mica in the corners solved that issue). Some good electron and ion temperature profiles were obtained in low densities. These will make for a good comparison with the ISP. But as the day progresses, the probe became unreliable. From the I-V traces, the Slit in ion saturation starts out with a normal profile (10's mA) then jumps by two orders of magnitude, indicating a sudden increase in collection area. Despite being held down tightly, it looks like the Slit's inertia is shorting it to the head. The other elements are not directly connected to the plasma, so this same diagnostic 'technique' cannot be used, but it is likely the same cause for them shorting out. Back to the clean room... |

The tokamak ran very well today. The plasma configuration was the same all
day, with only a few density changes being made during the day. The
startup didn't have to be touched at all. The only issues were (a) the
vessel heaters breaker tripped between shots one time, which resulted in
the vessel cooling down to 10 C, and about 30 minutes were required to heat
it back up, and (b) a horizontal port seal started leaking argon in the
afternoon, and we lost a bit of time to remedy that.
We ended the run at 15:00 in order to accommodate the PSFC barbecue.
No fizzles, duds, or computer delays today!
