MP 664 Study of spectral broadening of LH waves (1/2 day)
SL: S.G. Baek
PO: S. Wukitch

**Target plasma : 1120612009
Bt = 5.4 T, Ip = 550 kA, nebar = 0.6 ~ 1.4e20 m^-3, LSN
Plh= 800 kW, Tlh = 0.7 ~ 1.5 sec, N|| = 75 deg

** Goal :
(a) Spectral measurements of LH waves using the multiple probes
(b) Spectral measurements of low frequency ion cyclotron modes using the inner wall probes
- Agilent spectrum analyzer can be triggered single time within a discharge
(c) Measurement of the SOL density / temperature profiles using both the inner wall and A-port scanning probes
(d) Measurement of fluctuations using a X-mode reflectometer in front of the LH launcher
(e) Measurement of fluctuations using GPI for the part 1 & 2

**** Shot plan

1. LH power optimization : Bring up LH power to the maximum available power
According to Greg, 5 shots will be needed with nebar= 1.3 e20 m^-3

2. Fixed density scan
(1) nebar = 1.1e20 m^-3
(2) nebar = 0.7e20 m^-3

3. LSN to USN change during LH (e.g. = 1110106017 : may adjust timing)
(3) nebar = 1.3e20 m^-3
(4) nebar = 0.7e20 m^-3

Assuming no significant changes in the LH spectra, use USN for the density control

4. USN to Inner wall limited discharge during LH (e.g. = 1100901017 : may adjust timing )
(5) nebar = 1.3e20 m^-3.
(6) nebar = 0.7e20 m^-3

5. Density ramp during LH (USN)
(7) nebar = 0.7 ~ 1.3e20 m^-3 for 0.7 sec < t < 1.5 sec

If time permits, fill the density gap in Part 2/3/4.

If time permits, try the discharges with different plasma current ( Ip = 800 kA, discharge 1120612007 (5.4 T, 800 kA) )

(will update posting)

1. PDI density threshold.

2. As the density is raised, the amount of LH power collected by the inboard probes appears to decrease, and that by the Jdiv7 increases. Multiple effects (PDIs, scattering, collisional absorption) may be needed to explain these observations.

3. PDI power threshold. the sideband becomes significant over 500 kW

4. When IWL, the amount of the LH power by the inboard probes increase.

5. We gathered the density/temperature profile in the SOL using the WASP and FSP.

6. we have GPI measurements and X-mode reflectoemter fluctuation measurements.

Run summary

Despite the air leak yesterday, the startup was quite robust
today. The plasma was a bit on the dirty side with a fair amount of
oxygen. The H/H+D would increase to 20% with high power ICRF. At the
end of the run, we requested the plasma to evolve from LSN to inner
wall limited. As expected, the fueling increased and we had a marfe
on the last discharge. We also had difficulty keeping the LH on once
the discharge was limited. We were able to perform a shot to shot
density scan and ramped density scan within a shot.
