| MP 667: Commissioning of new SOL probes
The purpose of this run day is to acquire ion temperature profiles in the SOL with the Ion Sensitive Probe (ISP) over a range of densities. Will also puff He after the probes scan (1.2 s) to get CXRS B5+ ion temperature profiles for comparison. Start from shot 1120627010 from previous MP667 run (5.4 T, 0.8 MA, 0.4x10^20 m^-2). Target probes. When data is good, notch up nl04 by 0.2x10^20 m^-2. Don't spend too much time at the low density, need to get more high density data. If time left at the end of the run either fill in gaps in the density or try a density scan at 0.5 MA. For CXRS: fill NINJA plenum with 10 psi Helium DISABLED. |

| Post Run: Very good day for the ISP, despite the power supply troubles of yesterday. The voltage was droping out on current spikes. After nearly a whole day of debugging during shots, Brian came up with the simple solution of capacitors on the output.
Run started out at 5.4 t, 0.8 MA with a simple density scan from sheath-limited to detached deivertor. Initial temperature profiles look good, Ti ~= 3Ã?Te, as shown previously and expected by simple transport arguments. The power supply on the Guard drooped at higher density, thus voltage on the Collector wasn't maintained. The data every, except near the LCFS, at high density is still good. Initial inspection of the data reveals that Ti appears to lower in the SOL as the density is raised (expected due to higher collisionality), but doesn't equilibrate with Te. Next put the current down to 0.58 MA with a simple density scan. The lower current allowed to scan the edge density regiemes without exceeding current limits on the supplies. Data looks good, only getting to current limits at highest density. Ti is lower at this current. It appears that some scans were deep enough to see Ti~=Te. Also got good data for comparison by CXRS. Let CECE piggy pack with some argon for HIREX and slight tweeks to the toroidal field. Next up: analyze data, explore relative levels of heat transport by ions and electrons in the SOL. |

| Today, we tested a new ion probes using OH target plasmas
The machine worked well except for one interuption due to power supply camac. We got 26 normal plasmas out of 28 attempt (one fizzel and one runaway shut down) The initial setting had a fizzle detector timing at 1.8s We delaied it to 2.1s after a few shot. PCS software became slower later today, but did not became unacceptalbly slow. ![]() |
