We are going to test-fire the massive gas jet system today to see if our orifice plate is working to stopper down the flow rate on the OLD valve (at B-port), to be equal to that of the NEW valve at F-port. The flow rates BEFORE today were: OLD valve (B-port): 240,000 torr-l/s NEW valve (F-port): 180,000 torr-l/s | |

B-jet flow rate (with 0.161" diameter orifice plate): shot 001 - 193,673 torr-l/s shot 004 - 198,788 torr-l/s average: 196,231 torr-l/s F-jet flow rate shot 003 - 172,155 torr-l/s shot 005 - 171,504 torr-l/s average: 171,830 torr-l/s So we want to stopper down the B-jet more, with a new orifice plate: (NEW_DIA / 0.161 in.)^2 = 171,830/196,231 NEW_DIA = sqrt(171,830/196,231) * 0.161 in. NEW_DIA = 0.1506" We already have a 0.147" diameter orifice plate made; we'll use that. | |

Pressure pulse duration (per scope) - 7.84 ms Torus pressure after shot- Thermocouple gauge: 262.1 mtorr B-side lower MKS gauge: 379.6 mtorr Torus volume: 4000 l (assumed) Using B-side lower MKS gauge for pressure, we calculate the gas injected as 1518.4 torr-l. Flow rate 193,673 torr-l/s. It worked! We're within 8% of where we wanted to be. Next - fire F-port jet (NEW valve) to verify flow rate on that one. |

Pressure pulse duration (per scope) - 10.3 ms Torus pressure after shot- Thermocouple gauge: 302.2 mtorr B-side lower MKS gauge: 443.3 mtorr Torus volume: 4000 l (assumed) Using B-side lower MKS gauge for pressure, we calculate the gas injected as 1773.2 torr-l. Flow rate 172,155 torr-l/s. This means that the B-jet flow rate is now 12.2% higher than the F-jet flow rate. If we went to the 0.147" diameter (instead of 0.161"), that should stopper down the B-jet flow rate to 161,455 torr-l/s (a bit too small). Next - fire B-port jet (OLD valve) again to verify. |

Flow rate 160,683 torr-l/s. (compare to 171,830 torr-l/s on F-jet) Next - Do it again to verify. |

Don't like the shape of the pressure readings on the B-jet with this smaller orifice-plate. |
