Today's run was highly successful in spite of the fact that
we had only 6 usable shots (or more precisely, half shots).
We started from 940524025 (last shot from yesterday) minus
Tinios's ZCUR glitch. There were a lot of duds and fizzles.
During the course of today's run, the equilibrium evolved
to an inner-wall limited plasma with lower elongation. The
plasma still diverts after about 0.4sec, elongates, and
terminates in a vertical disruption (see, for example,
940525031). On the last shot (940525034) we have attempted
to move the plasma up so it is centered on the midplane,
but the plasma died early.

On the first successful shot 940525007 we have obtained
perfect tuning, at a power level of 100kW, and have declared
MP052 completed. On subsequent shots we have tried to increase
the injected power. The highest power achieved was about
0.6MW on 940525028. Shots 030 and 031 were programmed for
higher power, but because of degraded tuning the net injected
power was lower. The following is a list of good shots
from today:

The goals of this run were to get reproducible plasmas for RF tuning, and if
that was accomplished, begin RF conditioning to high power. The plasmas were
no more reproducible than in past runs, but as Yuichi said in the session
leader summary, it only took one decent shot to declare the tuning MP
complete. We played with many knobs in the attempt to get good shots, and
while some progress was made, we are by no means done with discharge
development. The good news was that we did not appear to lose any more
magnetics signals. As Steve Wolfe suggested, in future we should start our
runs at shot 20 rather than shot 1.

Shot rehash:

1) Started from last shot of 940524 with zcur glitch removed and Ip demand
lowered to .7 MA. Fill 1.2e-5, D2 fill and puff. Fizzle.

2) Fill 1.0e-5; fizzle

3) Br offset to -3e-3 from -2e-3.

4) EF4 to -1065 from -1050; short disruptive shot

5) Lower initial puff; dud

6) Fill 1.2e-5; fizzle

7) Br offset to -2.5e-3; fill to 1.1e-5; plasma

8) Change EF2U to go more -ve after 100 msec; dud

9) Ramp Ip prop gain more slowly, move Rcur out .5 cm; fizzle

10) Br offset to -2e-3; fizzle

11) EF I's from 4500 to 4800; fizzle

12) EF4's less -ve by 30 A; fizzle

13) EF4's more -ve by 10A, fill 1.0e-5; dud

Recommendations for tomorrow: start from 940525031 and use Argon puff program
like 940525032; if this goes, try raising Zcur.
