| Run Summary for 940601 SL: Takase/Terry PO: Wolfe EO: Daigle/Bertolino MP054 RF Conditioning MP051 Moly profiles Summary for MP054 (RF Conditioning) This was a successful run with only 1 dud and 1 fizzle. Plasma from 940527018 was loaded with some modifications. EF1 current was programmed more positive to prevent diverting near the end of the shot, and a 1 cm inward shift was taken out. The plasma was stable and reproducible, as requested by the authors of MP051 (Moly profiles). We have achieved an injected power of 1.8MW (shot 020 and thereafter, with varying amounts of interrupts). The injected power is currently limited by the available power from the transmitter. Further transmitter tuning (into the dummy load) is required to increase the power beyond this point. Substantial heating was observed, roughly consistent with L-mode scaling. H puff (minority ion) was added starting from shot 018. The concentration, as measured by OMA, was about 15%. The last shot (028) was a "no RF" baseline shot. |

| Physics Operator Summary of run of 940601 This was an RF conditioning run (MP054) with a piggyback moly transport scan (MP051) SL: Takase PO: Wolfe EO: Bertolino/Daigle A good run from the operations point of view. We got a long string of non-disruptive, reasonably reproducible shots. Equilibria were inner wall limited, with elongations between 1.4 and 1.5. Some tweaking was required to keep the density from changing. All shots after #1 had RF assist at breakdown. RF got up to 1.8MW. The Moly people got in a good scan. Tom Luke established a range for the amplitude of his "perturbing" gas puff. Catherine saw lots of neutrons. We started from a reload of 940527018. The first shot was a dud. For the second shot, the Br_0 offset was adjusted more positive by 1mTesla. This resulted in a fizzle. Shot #3, with no changes, was a dirty disruptive shot that terminated at 600msec. Shot #4 dropped the pressure to 1.0e-5 with no other changes. This ran full length (no disruptions) and looked good. The RF power was 700kW. On shot #5, we extended the flattop of the current to 0.8sec; also, the gain switches on the IP controller were moved from 0.6 to 0.8sec. Shot lasted until 1.2 sec with no disruptions. RF power to 1MW. SHot#6: Reduced the elongation by putting a ramp on the IC_EF1U&L currents to +1900 amps at 1.2 sec. This was successful. Shot#7 and 8 were basically the same, except for changes to the Ar pulse. The density dropped on #8 Shot #9 disrupted on ramp down (870msec). The density was substantially lower. Shot #10 raised gas puff. This was successful, got back a full length shot. Shot #11,12 were basically the same, with minor gas tweaks. Shot #13: took out the inward step in RCUR at 500msec in order to keep the outer gap small. This worked, the plasma got fatter, did not move off the inner wall. Shot #14,15: no changes. Shot#16,17: Started trying to put a 20msec gas pulse in at the end for Tom Luke. Couldn't see it. Other than that shot was good. Shot #18: added an H2 pulse on Pulse gas 2, 100V by 30msec. This put in a lot of H2. The shot ran fine, though. Shot #19-21: More tweaking on Ar pulse and Luke's D2 pulse. Reduced H2 pulse width to 10 msec. Shot#22: Disrupted late in ramp-down (1.015 sec). Density went up starting at 0.9sec, maybe a sharkfin? Shot #23: Dropped PULSE GAS#3, removed Luke's pulse. Shot ran normally. Shot#24-27: Adjustments to density level and more amplitude on Luke's pulse. H2 pulse width reduced to 5msec, after an estimate of H/D of 15%. Definitely looks like the late puff is visible on #27 on the Halpha, but not much on the density. This was up to 60V. Shot#28: No RF. Luke's pulse increased from 60V to 85V. This was clearly visible, giving an NL_05 increase of 8e18. Scorecard: ---------- Duds 1 Fizzles 1 Plasmas 26 (24 non-disruptive until >1 sec) ------- -- Total 28 |

The OH2 supplies are left as at the end of yesterday, namely Integral gains at 300 ohm each, proportional at 50 ohms? Previously the integral gains were unbalanced. Note that the gain switch on IP controller on OH2's and EFF1's is at 600 msec, while the EOF is at 720msec. | |
