Run 950207 was meant to perform the program layed out in MP #71B. No useful
data was obtained. A brief outline of the debacle is given below.

Shots 1-2: OH Tests.

Between shots 2 and 3: In cell access to fix TCI.

Shots 3-6: Fizzles and duds. The second to last shot from Friday (950203034)
was used as starting point.

Shot 7: By playing around with the prefill and field levels a decent shot was
had. Much H-Mode action was observed. In order to make this shot useful, the
density needed to be lowered, and the left gap needed to be increased and
steadied.

Shots 8-12: Development of shot to use as 'basis shot' for rest of run. By
shot 12, shot was deemed acceptable. Shots 11 and 12 used preprogrammed A-side
gas voltage copied from the feedback controlled gas voltage of shot 10.

Shot 13: Shot was probably fine as final 'basis shot' for run, but TCI went
out of commission.

Between shots 13 and 14: In cell access to fix TCI.

Shots 14-16: Attempted to repeat shot 13 without luck. Got fizzles. By shot
16, were able to get back to non-fizzle which would be an acceptable basis
shot.

Shots 17-18: Fizzles. Unable to repeat luck of shot 16.

Shots 19-20: Dropped ramp TF start-up program. Began using start-up from shot
950207016. With shot 20, got an acceptable baseline shot.

Shot 21: Copied feedback controlled piezo voltage from shot 20 into
preprogramming. Ran shot puffing through NINJA at B26-019 (private flux
region). Background density higher than what would be desirable, but not
enough time left in run to correct.

Shot 22: Fizzle.

Shot 23: Ran same as in Shot 21 without the NINJA puffing. This in theory
should serve as the baseline with which to judge the effect of the NINJA
puffing in shots 21 and 24. Unfortunately the baseline does not appear
repeatable enough to get desired data for the size of gas puffs in 21 and 24.

Shot 24: Same shot with puffing through B31-086 (outer divertor nose).

Because of unsteadiness of the baseline (variation in density background),
little useful data will be obtained from the puffing shots. For the amount of
density variation and the absolute level of the background density (about twice
that desired), a larger NINJA puff would have been needed to get useful data.

This was a disastrous run with numerous problems (a close competitor to
John Rice's 2-D neutral density runs).

The last shot from last Friday's highly successful run was loaded.
The start-up segment had the low-field start-up developed by Ian on
950201. After some tweaking of BR and prefill, we seemed to be on
the right track. The inner/outer gaps and the strike points were
adjusted and a low-density preprogrammed gas puff shot was established
as the baseline shot for the capillary gas experiment (shots 08-12).

We had two controlled cell accesses for TCI. After the second cell access,
we had a series of duds and fizzles. On shot 018 we had a TF failure in
which when the power supply went into inversion (still during the TF ramp)
a current increase was observed in two converters while a current decrease
was observed on the other two. The engineering group will be looking into
this problem. The low field startup was abandoned and
we loaded a full-field startup into seg. 1. Thereafter, things went
reasonably well. Limited data were obtained with the capillary gas puff.

Session Leader Comments
Feb 7 1995 10:09:51:920AM950207003D JablonskiStarting with shot 950203034. NINJA is purged in order to give absolute
gauge baseline (zero reading). Fizzle. OH1 problem.

Feb 7 1995 10:29:28:510AM950207004D JablonskiFizzle.

Feb 7 1995 10:35:38:810AM950207005D JablonskiLowered prefill. Fizzle.

Feb 7 1995 10:55:05:910AM950207006D JablonskiChanged fields and raised fill. Fizzle.

Feb 7 1995 11:37:02:070AM950207008D JablonskiMessed around a bunch and got a shot. Lots of H-mode action.

Feb 7 1995 11:52:21:730AM950207009D JablonskiSimilar to previous shot.

Feb 7 1995 12:11:32:860PM950207010D JablonskiLowered A-side gas puff feedback to nl_04 of 6e19, lowered strike points,
and widened left gap. Nice shot except for drifting left gap.

Feb 7 1995 12:30:57:600PM950207011D JablonskiCorrected for left gap (to steady) and copied feedback resultant
gas puff into preprogrammed trace. Fine shot (density a bit lot, but oh
well), will try to better steady left gap on next shot.

Feb 7 1995 01:10:15:680PM950207012D JablonskiCorrected for left gap (to steady). Shot was probably great, but had
no TCI to tell. Will stick with it as basis shot for rest of run.

Feb 7 1995 01:27:03:350PM950207012D JablonskiCorrected for left gap (to steady). Shot was probably great, but had
no TCI to tell. Will stick with it as basis shot for rest of run.

Feb 7 1995 02:01:53:330PM950207013D JablonskiHad to shut down to let J. Irby fix TCI. Same settings as last time,
got fizzle.

Feb 7 1995 03:16:00:020PM950207016D JablonskiGreat Shot. The basis shot for the rest of the run. NPART_EFIT of
6e19 at .5 and 8e19 at 1.0. Life is kind of a mystery.

Feb 7 1995 03:20:16:760PM950207017D JablonskiB26-19 open at .45 sec for .1 sec (NINJA injection). Fizzle.

Feb 7 1995 03:30:52:950PM950207018D JablonskiB26-19 open at .43 sec for .1 sec (NINJA injection). Fizzle.

Feb 7 1995 04:03:54:840PM950207019D JablonskiDecided problem was with newfangled start-up. Took startup from shot
950202036, and kept rest of 950207016. No NINJA. Density feedback back
on for nl_04 of 6e19. Fizzle because TF settings not correct.

Feb 7 1995 04:20:44:220PM950207020D JablonskiGood Shot. Hopefully the latest, greatest, and last basis shot. (cor-
rected the TF problem.)

Feb 7 1995 04:32:38:450PM950207021D JablonskiB26-019 NINJA shot at .43s for .1s, plenum pressure of 816torr. All
else same as last shot in theory. In practice, background density
altered. 22 will be basis shot.

Feb 7 1995 04:36:59:330PM950207022D JablonskiSame as last shot without puff. Fizzle.

Feb 7 1995 04:46:40:190PM950207023D JablonskiUpped prefill (plasma moved out in previous shot). DAQ1 messed up and
shot needed to be aborted.

Feb 7 1995 05:01:59:290PM950207023D Jablonski23 unaborted after DAQ1 fixed up. Shot went. Use as basis. Density
too high, but life's tough.

Feb 7 1995 05:07:45:280PM950207024D JablonskiB31-086 at .43s for .1s. Plenum press of 810 torr. Shot went. Should
be same as 23 except for puff. Reality is it's not (before .4 sec dens.
is LOWER in shot 24). Perhaps no usable data in RUN.
