Testing of D-port Antenna

D-port coax was connected last night. Balance detectors were added to the
two 6" loops and an optical arc detector was added to the bottom 4" coax
and feedthru area. Because of some reconfiguration, we had to recalibrate
the electrical lengths (this has to be done with plasma). We have verified
that the balance detector works. We have not seen any light with the
optical arc detector today (maximum power today was less than 100kW, so
we don't expect any arcs yet). We have seen RF power interrupts, but could
not identify the source. Based on the tests we did after the run, we have
concluded it was probably the reflection detector. Vacuum conditioning
after the run was successful, with peak voltage exceeding 50kV. We will
continue tomorrow with system testing at higher power levels.

Run 950323, SL=takase, PO=Horne, EO= Bertolino, Daigle.

This was an RF tuning/conditioning run. For RF details, see the SL report.
Piggybacked on the run we ran the VAT link to LLNL, and tried using IRC
to communicate between EO and PO. This seemed to work fairly well; we tweaked our
IRC protocol a little to make it a bit more flexible; most
of the communication between EO and PO was via the IRC.


Startup today was rocky. Machine seems to like BR offset at 7.e-3.
As machine cleaned up, carbon dropped even as fill was raised.
Shot 33 had hards at fill=2.2e-5;
last shot was at 2.4e-5 fill. The one shot today at 1.6e-5 was a dud; Wolfe
ran there yesterday successfully.
I most of the symptoms we saw today are consistent with
the machine becoming cleaner.

BZ seems to be running low today. I've raised EF4 from -1085 to -1065.
ZCUR PROGRAMMED TO 0. WAS AT -.01.
b side lower at 4,25psi argon, enabled for next shot

5 Peculiar shot. Big moly injection causes current to drop?
Startup is strange.
traq_2 failure, so can't check efit.
Scatterplot shows br too high, back off to 6.5e-3
OH1 current rise looks different (scatterplot)
Offset of perhaps 50 A at t=0. Watch it.
Reduce fill to 2.e-5

6. Fizzle.
BZ now too high. Put ef4 back to -1085.
7. Fizzle. Drop fill to 1.8 and try again.
8 aborted, no data. big board gas gauge shows fill at 4.5e-5!
8, try 2 -- very nice plasma.
Small lithium supposed to be at .920
9 nice plasma. no sign of the pellet.
RF still having trouble. No rf next shot.
Another pellet attempt next.
10 no pellet.
Increase rcur by 3 mm and raise nel to 1.5e20 for next shot.
11 no plasma -- fizzle.

Drop fill to 1.6 e-5.

12 Dud.
Raise fill to 2.0e-5. No pellet next shot.

13 ok but EF1 at voltage limit late.
shot killed by pellet.

14 fizzle.
br to .007, ic_ef4 to -1095 (10 a less)., clearin in 7 mm, rcur out 3 mm.
15 Disrupted with moly injection.
Slow down density ramp.

16 Better; disruption at about 1.0 sec.
NL to 1.e15, slight hard x-ray signal and ECE on all channels at
breakdown.. Raise fill to 2.2 e -5.

17. Fizzle. fill change?
Drop back to 2.0e-5.
18 Good plasma, rampdown & all.
19. Good plasma.
lithium pellet on next
Wolfe claims density rise a little fast -- should aim for 1.e15 at 500 msec.
Also IP should be 400 ka at 100 msec.
Try dropping puff late in segment 1, and slow down density ramp.
20 Disruption; 150 ka warning.

22 Full rampdown
23 Disrupted late perhaps due to the large pellet.

adjust rxu out to match better what we're getting.
31 ECE SCOPE SHOWS breakdown creeping across the chamber shot by shot.
Wolfe claims this correlates with runaway shots; the IP rise has been getting
faster also. However Amanda checked the ece spectrum
for this shot and said there were no non-thermal features.

33 the hard xrays showed up this shot.
Fill 2.4e-5 for next. We rushed this shot a little;
average tf at -160 instead of -165.
