Run summary for 951201

Finish cross-calibrating the Beast (PCX) and continue
RF conditioning. First part of the day was plagued by fizzle and
multiple CAMAC errors. We eventually removed the EDGE crate and the errors
were much reduced.

Commisioning was tentatively completed at shot 22.

Reverted to RF/pellets.

We got ten more shots, but never got rf and a pellet at the same time.
Both rf systems are essentially ready for high power experiments. E-port
has run up to 1.8MW while D-port is limited to 1.2MW. D-port is plagued
by crowbars which occur at rf interrupts. It may be a tube arc or a
transmission line arc between the tube and the first directional coupler.
This will be looked at on monday. The plasma position feedback system
was checked out for the run on next tuesday. It still responds somewhat
to rf interrupts, but we know how to fix this problem and it will ready
for tuesday. The last three shots were lost to a hybrid problem which
was apparently diagnosed and fixed on saturday. Word to the wise, don't
cycle hybrid power during the run unless absolutely necessary.

Two goals for today: a) Finish PCX/TCX commissioning
b) High Power RF with D_2 Pellets (PEP?)

In spite of a number of problems, goal a) was substantially completed. High power RF H-modes (~3MW) were obtained but there were
no big pellets on those shots.

There were many CAMAC store problems through the day.
The hybrid appears to have broken in some way after shot 29, which was the last successful plasma shot.

ECDC in D_2 before the run.

Start from 951130022, but lower nl_04 to 6e19. TF on hybrid control.

1. Fizzle (40 kA)
2. EF4 20A less negative; plasma; slight glitch in TF current at ~.27 seconds
3. PLasma; Elm free H-mode starting at .5s; apparently our first Elm free ohmic H-mode at 5 Tesla.
4. Repeat; no H-mode.
5. Lower preprogrammed voltage on PG3; increase RCUR by 5 mm; lower nl_04 to 5e19; fizzle; numerous CAMAC store errors
6. EF4 10A more neg. fizzle
7. EF4 10A more neg. plasma
8. nl_04 to 6e19; fizzle
9. Add 2 msec to prefill puff; plasma
