Attempt to get plasmas. Shot 1: EF3 test under PLC control to check magnetics timing. O.K. Shot 2: Copied shot 970521050. Fizzle. EF3 problems. Shot 3: EF3's crowbarred before t=0 leading to induced currents of several kA causing a dud. Shot 4: EF3 test under PLC control. EF3 breaker will not open. No current. End of run to sort out EF3 breaker problem.

May 22 1997 07:38:01:860AM		Steve Wolfe	Before today's run, we had Tommy turn on the spare ion gauge on J-port, which has a straight-in, but possibly obstructed view. The IGT gauge we normally use is on a side-arm, with no possible line-of-sight to the chamber. For today, the spare gauge is just on a local controller in the cell, not under PLC control. There was a pressure burst after the gauge was turned on, as it outgassed. Now coming back down. GDC was turned off at 5:50AM. It had been on overnight, up to 430mA.

Joe cycled the crate and it now passes the test Frank reports that EF2L has been running about 30C warmer than intended for the past 3 days due to an instrumentation problem. This would be consistent with the observed imbalance in the EF2's (U had more current), but may be irrelevant. We will monitor. No changes in PCS. LONGGGGG Delay for an EF3 breaker problem. Then an open thermocouple caused the heaters to pull out. Dud. EF3 came on at -1.1sec and ran to 4000A by t=0. EF3 seems to have crowbarred early, but there is a funny voltage after the current drops to zero.

May 22 1997 09:01:51:010AM	970522002	Joseph Snipes	TRAQ1 on magnetics failed to trigger. I went into the cell and found it in local mode, switched off crates GKC408 and GKC419 and then back on. I reset them in CTS and took a test shot 105 with the main magnetics signals. It went through fine. So, we'll try again.
