Engineering Setup for Thursday, 990422 ICRF Conditioning

The run will not start until 9:00 am in order to allow 1 hour for ICRF
maintenance.

1.5 hours of ECDC in D2

Vacuum conditioned D and E-port antennas to ~40 kV last night.

Gas setup - fill B-top with 6 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled
fill B-side lower with 1 psi of Ar Hybrid enabled
fill B-side upper with 6 psi of H2 Hybrid DISABLED
fill C-side with 30 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled
fill J-bottom with 30 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled

The following gate valves should be enabled, assuming no vacuum problems:

We will use J-bottom gas valve for the main D2 gas after 0.1 sec into the
discharge to test if this affects antenna performance.

new MW coefficients: D-port [-1.3140284,0.13618177,-2.1404101], but
these numbers are not terribly different from present coefficients.
There appears to be a saturation of power above 1.2 MW. Perhaps there
is a mismatch problem.

The tuning appears to be a subtle problem. We oscillate between two
solutions on E-port and often have diffuse clouds of points on D-port.
We really need to look into the tuning program to make sure we are
arriving at the correct solutions.

Antenna performance improved compared to yesterday. High power
discharges were obtained with fewer faults. The best discharges were
obtained in 1 MA discharges. The reason for the improvement is not
clear, but there are plenty of possibilities. Further analysis of
signals may reveal what is important and what is not. The location of
the gas puffing does not appear to be the major reason for the
faulting on D-port. The antenna condition appears to be improving
with more run time.

Many H->L induced EN-modes were observed in the 1 MA discharges. Most
did not survive the first sawtooth crash.

J-port conditioning continued into vacuum. The major obsticles are
vacuum conditioning, phase between transmitters, attenuation for DC2,
arc and voltage protection system, and DC1 calibration. Given the
present schedule, J-port is likely to be operating into plasmas
starting next Tuesday.

FMIT#2 was having crowbars at 600 kW to about 800 kW for 0.5 sec
pulses. The symptom is noise appearing on all tube anode voltages.
Retuning is necessary, but for now avoid the 600-800 kW window for 0.5
sec.

FMIT#1 had HV faults between shots that is a result of a bad door
switch on the driver cabinet (screen ps).

The start of the run was delayed because of the RF problem.
We started at 10 am and had 2 ohmic shots.

There was a problem with PCS coldstart - after running
HYBRID_DISPATCH the log file had a "RTNODE -- A MATRIX PRIVATE BUS NOT RESPONDING!"
line in it.
HBRID_DISPATCH was run second time without changing anything and succeded.

First shot was loaded from 990421011

J-bottom valve was used for fueling.
After it had two faults the fueling was switched back to C-side valve.

Problems with coldstart. The log file
mds$root_alpha:[syserr]daqa_bitbus_server.log contains the following
line:

Josh looked into it, did it again and this time it worked.
