Engineering setup and run plan for Tues. Aug. 24, 1999

MP#214 ICRF Conditioning (E and J-ports)
SL: Wukitch
PO: Wolfe

Run should begin at 9:00AM and end at 5:00PM.

Start (after Tuesday OH test) with standard 1MA 5.1T plasmas (like 990820010).
Bring up E-port/FMIT#2. Assuming this is successful, compare heating and
impurity behavior between E- and J-antennas. Try to optimize heating with J3
and J4 running together with E.

Engineering setup:
*** Two hours of ECDC in D2 prior to the run. ***

Setup power supplies from 990820001

Gas setup - fill B-top with 6 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled
fill B-side lower with 1 psi of Ar Hybrid DISABLED
fill B-side upper with 6 psi of H2 Hybrid DISABLED
fill C-side with 30 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled
leave J-bottom as is Hybrid DISABLED

The following gate valves should be enabled, assuming no vacuum problems:
ECE, VUV

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The OH test went fine. Aside from that, nothing was accomplished.

The gate on FMIT#2 failed, preventing remote operation of the transmitter.
This was traced to a combination of problems, including bad cables, incorrect
voltage divider ratios, and improper attenuators.

Subsequent tests into dummy load ran into problems with screen current
trips. There seem to be numerous problems in the FMIT#2 control circuitry.
They finally gave up on running into plasmas and decided to go through the
controls in gory detail.

We ran one plasma, just to verify the rest of the machine is operational.
This was successful.

Aug 24 1999 10:32:00:060AMSteve WolfeLoad from 990820010. LOAD/CLEAN
Coldstart at 7:54: log checks out ok.
Aug 24 1999 10:32:11:000AMSteve WolfeWe seem to be having CMODA problems again: queues hung and won't show,
mail hangs, scopes won't start, ...

There is a batch_999 on CMODA in RWMPB state with a lot of page faults;
don't know if that's the problem or not.
Aug 24 1999 10:32:23:233AMSteve WolfeCMODA is spontaneously rebooting. Maybe that will fix things.
Aug 24 1999 09:27:09:450AM990824001Steve WolfeShot#1: Tuesday OH test. looks ok.
We will now wait for the RF'ers to do some magic in the power room.
Aug 24 1999 01:14:56:750PM990824002Steve WolfeShot#2: Should be a copy of 990820010, but with E-port antenna
instead of J.

NO RF. They've given up. This will be an ohmic shot, just to make
sure all systems are operational. Then we go to open access, and
the RF crew will disect FMIT#2 control system.

Result: Plasma, full length. Some small injections. D-alpha shows
some dithers.
