Run 991110 in support of MP214: RF Conditioning MP225: Determination of Mo Source, will ride along as possible. Run will BEGIN at 09:00 and END at 17:00 FMIT#3 and FMIT#4 should be made ready for operation. FMIT#1 should be warmed up and ready to go when needed. Setup power supplies from shot 991109021. This shot was a 5.2 T, 800 kA discharge, with a 1.5 s flattop. We will continue with 50 kA backporch on TF pulse. Two hours of ECDC in D2 at 2.e-4 Torr before the run (should be stopped by 08:00). Gas setup - fill B-top with 6 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled fill B-side lower with 1 psi of Ar Hybrid DISABLED fill B-side upper with 10 psi of H2 Hybrid DISABLED fill C-side with 30 psi of D2 Hybrid enabled Enable ECE and VUV. ********* Run plan ********* Condition J-port antenna. Evaluate effect of magnetic field, plasma density, edge gradient, gap, plasma shape on J-port power density limit. Going to higher BT with identical q_edge as 5.2 T, allowed ~200 kW more power to be accepted by the plasma. Thus far, the impurity influx appears to depend on power density and this density appears independent of plasma current and q, and weakly dependent on BT. A density and gap scan are the only parameters left.

RF power from #1, #3, and #4 was very reliable. J-port seems to work better at higher and lower fields (anything but 5.2 T). Range from 4.5 to 5.7 T was covered today. I think the pedestal people got the data they needed early in the run with #1 running from 0.5 to 1.0 seconds w/o j-port. Problems: Still had ramp-up problems with alternator exciter. A defective relay was found and replaced. This change seems to have fixed the ramp-up problem. A problem with a 50 volt power supply is probably the cause of the single phasing on the exciter supply well after the shot. The supply will be replaced tomorrow morning and be checked out and ready to go before the Friday run.
