If you donât already have PictureTalk installed on the machine from which you will make your presentation, then go to

http://www-pls.es.net/PictureTalk/ptk-apps/common/htdocs.ptk/dload.html

Select the software installation appropriate for the system to which you are downloading. Since I have a G4 Mac, I selected "PowerPC Client for Macintosh (1.4.3)"

Double click on "Download". If the unstuffing isnât done automatically, then "UnStuff" the downloaded file.

Depending upon where you put the newly created PictureTalk folder, note the location of this folder containing the PictureTalk Communicator executable.

At this point I had to get into my Netscape "preferences", select under Navigator "applications", find the text.ptk extension and "choose" PictureTalk Communication as the application. (You will have to browse to the folder where you put PictureTalk.

If you now want to test PictureTalk OR if you already have PictureTalk installed on the machine from which you will make your presentation, then go to

http://www-pls.es.net/PictureTalk/ptk-apps/meetings/cgi-bin/browse.exe

Click on the name of an open meeting to join it. (When the C-Mod Ideas Forum is actually occurring, first click on DCS at the left side of the page. The C-Mod Ideas Forum (or something similar) will be one of the possible meetings. Click on that to join. The password is " ".)

The first time you do this you will be asked to fill out some information. I gave my name and e-mail address. A new window will appear, saying "Congratulations, you have successfully joined the meeting."

If you are attending, but not yet presenting anything, then what is being presented at the meeting will be shown within the window. (You size the window to your preference and still see everything.) The password for ATTENDING the Ideas Forum presentations is DCS.

When it comes time for you to present, then pull down under the "presentation" menu "Present". The password for PRESENTING the Ideas Forum presentations is PSFC.

If that option is not available, then the "Raise Hand" option will be available. This will be communicated to the person who is "has the floor" at the moment. He must yield the floor to you. When that occurs, the green border around his icon will disappear and you will then get to pull down "Present". After "Present" has been selected, a new, green-bordered window will appear. Anything inside that window will be broadcast, so make sure that your vu-graph-presenting software is up and running your presentation (e.g. Acrobat, Word or PowerPoint). Size your PictureTalk window so that your presentation window fits within it. I recommend that you use your entire screen and that the vu-graphs be configured in landscape orientation and that they fill the screen.

On Macs, you may have to increase the allocated memory for PictureTalk Communicator. I upped it from 6 MB to 10MB.
