C-Mod research milestones for FY07

The following program milestones are used to track short-term progress by the Office of Fusion Energy Sciences. They play an important role in informing our prioritization process for run-time. (These are not JOULE milestones.)

_______________________________________________________________
A. Investigate particle and density control with the new upper divertor cryopump.

A.1 Complete tests on and evaluation of prototype cryopump, including cool-down with liquid nitrogen and liquid helium, measuring pumping speeds for deuterium and hydrogen, and exploring regeneration cycling. (December 31, 2006)

A.2 Install cryopump in C-Mod and perform invessel cooldown tests. (March 31, 2007)

A.3 Investigate particle and density control in tokamak plasma operation. (June 30, 2007)

A.4 Complete analysis of initial cryopump studies; write and submit report to OFES. (September 30, 2007)

B. Investigate Lower Hybrid RF in L- and H-Mode plasmas, including study of combined Lower Hybrid RF and Ion Cyclotron RF.

B.1 Complete refurbishment of Lower Hybrid High Voltage Power Supply, and prepare to operate klystrons. (December 31, 2006)

B.2 Re-install LH launcher and ICRF antennas; resume C-Mod operations. (March 31, 2007)

B.3 Operate LHRF into L-Mode and H-Mode plasmas, and investigate combined LHRF and ICRF. (June 30, 2007)

B.4 Compare experimental results with state of the art code predictions. Write report and submit to OFES. (September 30, 2007)
