The MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) is a facility at the forefront of plasma physics and fusion energy research. It is located on the main MIT campus in Cambridge MA and comprises a team of over 200 top-tier students, scientists, and engineering staff jointly pursuing fusion research at a national laboratory-like scale. The PSFC is seeking an individual who wants to work in a team-oriented environment to help in the overall effort to achieve fusion energy on an accelerated timescale.

Job Description

Join a team at the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center to contribute to the development and implementation of advanced plasma diagnostic systems for magnetic fusion experiments. The successful candidate will focus on plasma reflectometry and related millimeter-wave technologies, including systems to be deployed in the SPARC tokamak.

Responsibilities:Design, test, and operate millimeter-wave and reflectometry systems for plasma measurements.Develop data acquisition and analysis tools.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at MIT and partner institutions on diagnostic integration and commissioning.Contribute to publications and conference presentations in the field of fusion diagnostics.

Qualifications
  • Candidates should have general knowledge of fusion-grade plasma physics with a Ph.D. in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with microwave or millimeter-wave systems, RF electronics, or plasma diagnostics is preferred.
  • Strong experimental, analytical, and programming skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented research environment.
