Shon Mackie
Research Specalist
Biography

Shon studies burning plasma physics through the lens of neutron spectrometry. He recently defended his PhD thesis wherein he designed a new MPR neutron spectrometer for diagnosing fusion power, ion temperature, fuel density and composition, and kinetic signatures of the burning plasma state. He has also developed novel thermonuclear kinetic simulations of SPARC plasmas using the codes CQL3D, DRESS, and AORSA. Besides his work on fusion, Shon is also an avid aurora chaser, starting the PSFC annual student-led geophysical plasma observation expedition.
