Advancing HTS Magnet Technology for SPARC: Insights from the PIT-VIPER Cable

A seminar by Erica Salazar

Abstract:Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is developing and building SPARC, a high-field, compact tokamak designed to achieve net energy gain (Q > 1) and pave the way for ARC, the first fusion power plant. High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets are a key enabling technology of SPARC’s design, which include the Toroidal Field (TF), Poloidal Field (PF), and Central Solenoid (CS) coils. This talk will provide a high-level overview of the physics and challenges that drive design, operation, and innovation of HTS magnet technologies such as the PIT-VIPER cable.
