Visit the PSFC

Fusion enthusiasts can sign up to take a 60-minute tour of our Albany Street lab facility.

We are dedicated to making science accessible to all

The PSFC offers 60-minute tours of our Albany Street facility to students of all ages, the public, and affiliated professionals. See a plasma and magnet demonstration, get a glimpse into our lab, and learn how fusion power can contribute to a carbon emissions-free future.

Tours run weekly on Thursday mornings at 11:00AM, and may be reserved for groups of 5-30 people. At this time, tour registration is closed for Fall semester. Please check back in February for interest in Spring semester tours, and in starting in April for summer tours.

Requests should be made between no more than three months in advance. While there is no minimum request duration, please be aware that tours are often full. We recommend requests 4-6 weeks in advance of your intended visit date. Please be aware that tours enter active lab space, and your tour may be shortened or canceled without advance notice if there are active lab safety concerns at the time of your visit.  In this extremely unlikely event, every attempt will be made to offer an amended tour route or rebook your group.

Join our bi-annual Open House

Due to the high volume of requests, we are unable to accommodate every tour request received, and priority is given to students and researchers/industry professionals. We host bi-annual open houses in February and July so that individuals and smaller family groups can visit and learn more about the exciting science happening at the PSFC. Registration is first come, first serve.

A head’s-up about SPARC and CFS

The MIT PSFC spin-off company Commonwealth Fusion Systems recently broke ground on their facility in Devens, MA, where the SPARC device will be constructed. Although we are proud to be CFS's largest research partner, the PSFC is not involved with scheduling visits or tours of the Devens facility, and CFS does not have a formal tour program. If you are interested in learning more about SPARC and the Devens site, please reach out to CFS directly.
