Fusion Undergraduate Scholars (FUSars)

Got an undying love for fusion science? Join us and become the future of fusion—build real-world skills in and out of the lab with support from great mentors.

Nurturing your fusion enthusiasm

FUSars are passionate about fusion science and ready to fulfill the program’s rigorous requirements. FUSars is MIT’s highest-compensated undergrad research opportunity because we believe no student should have to choose between fusion research and a living wage.

Compensation

FUSars is funded entirely by generous donors, and their support enables FUSars to be the highest-paying research opportunity on campus.
FUSars in good standing are eligible to earn up to $31 per hour and will also receive a $4,000 stipend to support professional development.

No. FUSars is administered entirely through the PSFC and has its own competitive two-part application process. You must select a project, contact the project’s supervisor to get the information necessary to apply, then submit an application through this portal.

The first week of classes, spring semester; the day and time will be determined after the members of the cohort have been accepted so that we can ensure everyone can attend.

No problem! All of the FUSar projects can be done as regular UROPs.

If the spot is still open and the supervisor wants to hire you, you can apply to do the project as a UROP.

Nope! You are welcome to stay over the summer, and we’ll help you find funding, but you are not obligated to stay for the summer.

FUSars is made possible by some very generous donors, and we are hoping that they will continue to fund the program. However we cannot guarantee that the program will be offered in the future.

Please do not apply for more than 2 positions. If you are accepted to both, you must choose only 1 in which to participate.
