Stopping power, counter streaming instabilities and collisionless shocks

Abstract: I will comment on the 3 main topics I’ve been exploring over the last 30 years, namely, stopping power, counter streaming instabilities and collisionless shocks. Regarding stopping power, I will talk about energy loss of extended charges in a collisionless plasma, degenerate or not. The counter streaming instabilities part will present an exploration of the full unstable k spectrum, initially motivated by the Fast Ignition Scenario and eventually often exploited in astrophysics. Finally, regarding collisionless shocks, I will present a theory of the very formation of such shocks, plus a model allowing to deal with departures from MHD behaviour.
