Tours

The PSFC is dedicated to making science accessible to all. Beginning in July 2025, the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC) will be offering monthly tours for those interested in learning about our cutting-edge research in plasma physics and fusion energy. Tours take place on the second Tuesday of each month from 2:30-3:30 PM and are open to anyone aged 16+, with a maximum capacity of 40 visitors per tour day. Advance registration is required, and spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To reserve your spot or learn more, please visit our registration page, coming June 1.

During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to explore our facilities, hear from researchers and graduate students, and gain insights into the future of fusion energy. Tours typically last about an hour and include an overview of our experiments, including the SPARC fusion device currently under development.

Special Tour Requests

If you believe your group has a compelling reason to request a tour outside of our regularly scheduled monthly tours, you may submit a request at the bottom of this section. Please note that we are only able to accommodate a limited number of exceptions, and approval is reserved for groups with a clear and significant connection to our mission and educational efforts.

Special Tour Request Form

Open House

Due to the high volume of requests, we are unable to accommodate every tour request received, and priority is given to students and researchers/industry professionals. We host bi-annual open houses in Spring and Summer so that individuals and smaller family groups can visit and learn more about the exciting science happening at the PSFC. Advance registration is required, and spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We are currently determining dates for our next open house, once determined they will be posted here as well as on all our social media. To reserve your spot or learn more, please visit our registration page, coming soon.

We look forward to welcoming you to the PSFC and sharing our passion for fusion research!

*A note about SPARC and CFS*

The MIT PSFC spin-off company Commonwealth Fusion Systems in Devens, MA, is where the SPARC device will be constructed. Although we are proud to be CFS’s largest research partner, the PSFC is not involved with scheduling visits or tours of the Devens facility, and CFS does not have a formal tour program. If you are interested in learning more about SPARC and the Devens site, please reach out to CFS directly.
